During the summer holidays last year (or maybe even before that) I saw Lady Gaga’s first single, Just Dance featuring Colby O'Donis on MTV’s breakfast show and just knew that it was going to be massive. At first I thought that it was a yet-to-be-discovered hit or someone who would just remain out of the South African music market, but sure enough, a few days later I switched on the radio and heard it play on 94.7 Highveld Stereo. I was amazed to see that a remixed version made it to the new NOW! CD.

As much as I loved ‘Just Dance’, Pokerface got me to give Lady Gaga a standing ovation. The first few seconds in, I thought she had used the same tune from her first hit, but then as the song went on it was quite clear that the song had its own oomph, even though it had the same feel, which I was sure was intended to be so by the artist. I love the song so much that I turn up the volume every time I hear it. And why not… it’s such an awesome song, don’t you think? But what’s the song about:
